A strong sprint saw Brent Harris take line honours for the Anderson Rosebowl in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s Fairweathers Winter series at Fairhall last Saturday afternoon.
The open grade 36km handicap event was run over 4 laps of the Benmorven circuit, starting and finishing at Fairhall Hall. All four handicap groups rode well over the first couple of laps with the scratch markers starting to make an impression in lap three. The final lap saw virtually the whole field join together with just 3km remaining. A long sprint home, of 20 riders, saw Harris (off 2m) prevail over Paul Newman (off 2m), Mike Murphy (off scratch), Jeremy McKenzie (off scratch) and Sean O’Neill (off scratch) respectively. The latter three taking the time honours.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Fairweathers Winter series will continue with riders competing on the Tuamarina/Rarangi circuit. The open grade will compete over 4 laps in a 44km handicap event whilst the Junior under 17 grade will compete in a 22km massed start event for the James Bros. Trophy.
All rider are to asssemble in Neals Road 200m south of Isabel Place at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.
