Jeremy McKenzie was in top form to win the Funnell Trophy in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s Fairweathers Winter series event at Fairhall on Saturday afternoon.
The open grade 41.3km handicap event started and finished at Fairhall Hall taking in two and a half laps of the Hawkesbury circuit. Strong winds on the way out to Hawkesbury saw the scratch group quickly pull in the large 30sec break bunch. Mckenzie was then on a mission, taking with him junior under 19 rider Dylan Vile. The pair worked hard to catch the 6m30s group on Brookby Road on the final lap. Leaving the rest in their wake Mckenzie rode in to take first place and fastest time from co-marker Vile. Scratch co-marker Nick Batt finished well just 31sec back in third place. Marty Bruce (6m30s) headed off co-markers Tony Little and David Hutchison in the sprint home for the next placings.
