Hutchison Takes Vincent Shield

David Hutchison produced a strong sprint to win Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s Vincent Shield in the opening of Fairweathers Winter series at Renwick on Saturday afternoon.
The open grade 32km handicap event was competed for over 4 laps of the Conders Bend/Renwick circuit. As the race progressed it was the 7m 30s group who hit the front with one lap remaining. A long sprintĀ  home saw Hutchison (off 7m 30s) just head off co-markers Scotty McDermid and Graham Henderson, for line honours. Scratch rider Tony Catterick outsprinted Co-markers Sean O’Neill and Nick Batt for time honours. A good effort came from Batt and co-marker Glen Herkt who were only 30 seconds down onĀ  a fastest time upset.
The junior under 17 grade had a 28km handicap event up the Waihopai Valley and return for the Opening Day Cup. Brittany Lucas (off 20m) stuck to her task to take line honours over 2 minutes clear of her nearest rival.
