Hill Challenge For Palatchie Cup

Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s open grade riders head into the hills when they compete in the James Palatchie Memorial Cup event tomorrow afternoon from Riverlands.
The open grade 45km handicap event from Blenheim into the Awatere Valley and return has always been a true test for the riders, since its inception in 1947, with the climbs over the Weld and Dashwood Pass. The event starts on SH1 in Riverlands and follows a course into the Awatere Valley Road before turning home to finish in Alabama Rd opposite Riverlands hall. Fastest time is expected to be fought out between scratchmarkers Gerard van Antwerpen, Jeremy McKenzie and Callum Saunders. Riders are to assemble at Riverlands Hall at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.
The junior under 17 grade will compete in a handicap event over 24km on the Taylor Pass Road for the Palatchie Cup. Fastest time honours on the rolling course should see a battle between Thomas Westend, Ethan Brydon and Christopher Grammer. Riders are to assemble just beyond the roundabout on Taylor Pass Road at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.
