Saunders In Good Form For Graded Win

Junior under 17 rider Callum Saunders finished strongly to take the ‘A’ grade win in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s Summernite Series, Cycle World Graded Race No3, at Fairhall last Wednesday evening.
Even though the riders encountered wet weather over the Benmorven/Ridge Resort course some good solid riding was seen in the various grades. The ‘A’ grade 43km event covered 4 laps of Benmorven before finishing on a new hill finish at the Ridge Resort. At the start of the last climb 6 riders remained in the front group which soon split in the effort to finish. Saunders took a comfortable victory just ahead of Peter Crampton, Jeremy McKenzie and Brodie Catterick. The 34km ‘B’ grade was a similiar situation with 7 riders in contention on the final climb. Nick Blakiston made short work of the hill to record a good win over Craig Murphy by 18 seconds, with another 17 seconds to Larry Kendall in third place. The ‘C’ grade 34km event went to Joe Blakiston by 5 seconds to Denis Church.
