Cracking Time By Top Team

The top team set a cracking pace to record 52 minutes 37 seconds in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s 40km team time trial event from Renwick on Saturday afternoon.
The open grade event covered an out and return course from the Waihopai turnoff on State Highway 63 to just before Wairau Valley township and return. The riders encountered a head wind on the outward journey with the favourites Ray Dunstan, Gerard van Antwerpen, Andrew Jamieson and Brent Harris turning in 29m 58s. A very quick ride home of 22m 39s (average speed of 52.98kph) gave them a good victory. Although quite a few of the top riders were away two other teams had commendable rides to go under the hour. Antony Clark, Martin Fletcher, Craig Murphy and Brent Ackroyd recorded 57m 10s, whilst the three man team of Ryan Lock, Graham Henderson and Mike Murphy recorded 59m 23s.
The junior team event was a good practice for those riders competing at the National School Championships in Levin next weekend. The five man team of Leatham Landon-Lane, Peter Crampton, Callum Saunders, Quinn Karwowski and Nick Blakiston clocked a good time of 31m 01s over the 21km course.
