Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s riders will compete in the Cuddon Cycling Marlborough 80km Open Championship at Fairhall tomorrow afternoon.
The open grade handicap event will cover four laps of a slightly changed course, covering the Benmorven circuit, the Ridge Resort climb and turning at Fromm Winery in Godfreys Road. Masters rider Gerard van Antwerpen will be after a repeat of last year when he made a clean sweep to take first place and fastest time. Van Antwerpen’s competition for fastest time will come from scratch co-markers Andrew Jamieson, Conway Taylor, Josh Scott and Jeremy McKenzie. Trophies at stake will be the Ray Gibson Challenge Cup (fastest time), C Gibson Challenge Cup (first place), and Savoy Trophy (first Marlborough rider home). Titles for Senior men, Women, Masters Men, and Junior Under 19 Men will be competed for.
The Junior under 17 grade will compete in a 25km Championship event over one lap of the open course. Callum Saunders and Quinn Karwowski will have a good battle for fastest time with Nick Blakiston at their heels.
All riders are requested to assemble at Fairhall Hall at 1pm for a 1.30pm start. Usual front markers are likely to start early at 1.15pm.
