Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s open grade riders will compete in the tough Montana-Medway and return two stage event tomorrow afternoon.
The first 40km stage is a handicap event covering a course from Montana Winery over the Weld and Dashwood Pass climbs, and then the uphill drag up the Awatere Valley Road to finish on the steep Medway hill. The return mass start/sealed handicap stage is usually ridden at high pace back down the valley and then climbs back over the hills to finish back at the Montana Winery. The hard course and windy conditions usually sees a great battle for fastest time between scratch riders. Riders favoured for time honours are Gerard van Antwerpen, Tony Catterick, Brody Catterick, Conway Taylor, Jeremy McKenzie and Josh Scott.
Riders are to assemble opposite Montana Winery at 1pm for a 1.30pm start (normal front markers will start 10-15minutes earlier).
The junior under 17 grade riders will also ride a two stage event. The first 20km stage starts at Dumgree Road and finishes at the Medway and stage two returns back to Dumgree Road. Fastest time will be fought out between Callum Saunders, Quinn Karwowski and Nick Blakiston. Under 17 riders are to meet at their venue at 1.30pm for a 2pm start.
