Mahakipawa Hill Challenge

Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s open grade riders will compete for the Okaramio Hotel Challenge Trophy from Okaramio tomorrow afternoon.
The open grade 50km handicap event covers a rolling course out to Havelock, and then over the Mahakipawa hill to almost Linkwater and return. The past winners have usually come from strong rides over the Mahakipawa climbs and then holding off the fast finishing back markers over the final 15km from Havelock to Okaramio. Fastest time honours will see the consistent Gerard van Antwerpen in competition with scratch co-markers Conway Taylor, Ray Dunstan and Josh Scott.
The majority of the local junior cyclists are travelling North this weekend to compete in the National Schools Cycling Championships in Levin, Palmerston North and Fielding. The riders will compete in various age groups in team time trials on Saturday, road races and the Manawatu Tour on Sunday, and points races on the Manfield raceway on Monday.
Local riders are to assemble at the Okaramio Tavern at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.
