Local riders performed well to take medals as part of the Tasman Centre cycling team at the RaboPlus Age Group Track Cycling Nationals at Invercargill last week.
Masters One rider Conway Taylor confirmed his recent good form to collect the Silver medal in the 3000m Individual Pursuit (3m 36.24s) and was also a close 4th in the 8km scratch race event. Jamie Kidd (part of the NZ AWD squad) carried on his improvement in times to record top time in the C4 4000m Individual Pursuit (5m 18.31s) and second fastest in the Kilo time trial at 1m 17.24s.
Certainly the youngsters were the stars of the Tasman team with Junior under 15 riders Cameron Ford (Nelson) and Quinn Karwowski (Blenheim) to the fore.
Ford took Silver in the 500m time trial, Bronze in the 200m Derby and 2000m scratch event, and 4th in the 8km Points race. Karwowski took a Bronze in the 500m time trial and two fourths and a fifth in the other events respectively. Nelson’s Kristoff Ford was also successful in the Junior under 17 grade taking the Silver in the 515m scratch event and 4th in the 500m time trial. Other members of the team also performed creditably including local Callum Saunders, with valuable experience gained for next year.
