The first event of Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s ‘summernite’ road racing saw good numbers competing on the Benmorven circuit last Wednesday.
The ‘A’ grade event over 40km covered 4 laps of Benmorven and then finished on the flat into the ridge Resort. Strong riding in the windy conditions saw a good time of 59m 03s recorded. Splits in the front group appeared in the latter stages with Gerard van Antwerpen taking a close sprint finish from Richard Anderson. Just 7 seconds back Chris Heywood edged out Jamie Hawke for third place.
The ‘B’ grade event covered 3 laps (31km) with the field of 18 riders whittling down to 8 for the final sprint home. A tight finish saw junior under 17 rider Callum Saunders head off Craig Murphy and Andrew Gifford.
The small ‘C’ grade event also covered 3 laps with Stu Curnow taking line honours from Julie Fry and Hugo Smith.
