Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s open grade riders will compete in the tough Montana-Medway two stage event tomorrow afternoon.
The first 40km stage is a handicap event covering a course from Montana over the Weld and Dashwood Pass climbs, and then the uphill drag up the Awatere Valley Road to finish on the steep Medway hill. The return mass start/sealed handicap stage is usually ridden at high pace back down the valley and then the climb back over the hills to finish at Montana Wines. Much interest will be focussed on the back groups which contain many of the riders currently preparing for the National Club Championships in Nelson in October. The hard course and usual winds encountered will see a great battle for fastest time between scratch riders Jamie Hawke, Jono Lee, Brendan Neylon, Tony Catterick, Ray Dunstan, Kevin Bishell, Josh Scott, Chris Heywood, Paul Newman, Gerard van Antwerpen, Conway Taylor and Sean O’Neill.
All riders are to assemble opposite Montana Wines at 1pm for a 1.30pm start (normal front markers will start 10-15minutes earlier).
