Jamie Kidd’s awesome effort over the last 6 kilometres saw him snatch victory in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s Okaramio Hotel Challenge Trophy event at Okaramio last Saturday afternoon.
The open grade 50km handicap event covered a rolling course out to Havelock over the Mahakipawa hill to almost Linkwater and return. The Mahakipawa hill was the test for most riders for their bunches to stay intact. The 4 minute break bunch was solid and started to mow its way through the field on the homeward journey. Kidd and Mark Grammer had ridden away for a short period but were soon caght by their co-markers again. Kidd made his big move on the Rocky Creek hill and time trialled home to take line honours 5 seconds ahead of a 10 strong group. Josh Roach (4m) took the sprint for second place ahead of Todd Neal (6m), Rhonda Murphy (10m) and Stephen Rooney (4m).
The large scratch group came in 2 minutes 30 seconds later with Ray Dunstan taking the sprint for fastest time from David Craig, Bronwen Frazer and Brendan Neylon.
