Dunstan & Higgison Take TT Trophies

Veteran cyclist Ray Dunstan outrode his younger rivals to win the Vincent Cup in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s time trial on the Waihopai Valley Road last Saturday afternoon.

The 40km open grade event covered a course from the Grove Mill Winery to just above Craiglochart and return. With a head wind on the outward journey up the valley it was obvious there was only going to be a few rders go under the one hour barrier. Dunstan was heading for a time around 56 minutes when he was unlucky to puncture. He was fortunate to get a spare wheel and carried on to still take victory (57m 59s) by 21 seconds from junior under 19 rider Cameron Karwowski (58m 20s) and another veteran Conway Taylor (58m 58s).

The Verhey Cup for the sealed handicap deservedly went to Marie Higgison who won by a large margin of 1m 41s to Lance Spencer with another 55s back to Taylor.

The junior under 17 grade rode a 16km time trial to the spy base and return. Top rider Callum Streeter had an easy win to record 26m 32s. Henry Barnett (30m14s) headed off Pim Greven (30m 43s) for second place. The sealed handicap was won by Emma Crosswell by 40s to Greven with Nick Blakiston another 2s back in third place.
