Secondary Schools’ Two Day Tour Rules

In accordance with the New Zealand Schools Cycling Association Rules

  1. 1. The events shall be: (1) Individual Time Trial, (2) Criterium, (3) Hill Climb,(4) Road Race
  2. 2. School colours shall be worn. Or if not then a white top or a jersey turned inside out.  No Trade tops.
  3. 3. All winning riders on the podium should present in their schools colours and without caps or dark glasses.
  4. 4. Competing schools shall be responsible for the transportation and related costs of their teams.
  5. 5. Schools shall have entered their riders by the due date as advised.
  6. 6. Gearing:
      • In year 7 and 8 maximum gearing with one complete turn of the pedals shall be 6.00 metres roll out
      • In U15, maximum gearing with one complete turn of the pedals shall be 6.61 metres roll out
      • In U17 the maximum gear will be 6.61 meters
      • In U20 (U18 U19) maximum gearing with one complete turn of the pedals shall be 7.930 metres roll out.
  7. 7. Gear checks will be carried out after the Individual Time Trial (for all) and criterium and road races for placed riders. It is the rider’s responsibility to have gears checked before leaving the course if they finish in one of the first ten places. (preliminary gear checks at registration)
  8. 8. No disc or composite wheels will be permitted. The minimum no. of spokes is 16.
  9. 9. Composite hubs ARE NOT allowed
  10. 10. Fixed wheel shall not be permitted.
  11. 11. Standard one piece drop handle bars only allowed. Triathlete type bars, including clip-on and bull horn bars are not permitted under any circumstances.
  12. 12. Standard approved hard hat crash helmets only, must be worn. All other types are not permitted.
  13. 13. Cycle shall be outfitted as per road code.
  14. 14. Riders comprising a team shall be permitted to change cycles or parts among themselves.
  15. 15. No outside assistance shall be permitted . In the individual time trial all riders must be at least 25 metres behind and 2 metres to the side of any other rider. In the Road Races, should any bunches from different age groups come together, riders may not either take pace or give pace to a rider from another age group.
  16. 16. Students competing must be enrolled at secondary school in a class in Year 9 or above on the day of competition, are under the age of 20 years as at 31 Dec in the year of the competition, or in Year 7 & 8, and satisfy the eligibility criteria for secondary school sporting competitions as set by NZSSSC.
  17. 17. Any rider winning a trophy shall retain possession of it until one month before the next contest and shall be responsible for its safekeeping and return one month before the next event.
  18. 18. No following cars or support vehicles will be allowed on the course. Any person infringing this rule may incur a time penalty against their riders.
  19. 19. Matters not covered in these rules will be considered by the organisers and any decisions will be guided by Cycling New Zealand rules and by-laws.
  20. 20. Should any dispute arise, the matter should be reported to the Race Manager or Commissaire within 30 minutes of the completion of the race. The protocol for dealing with these matters will be in accordance with normal UCI procedure as laid out in CNZ rule book.
