Locals Take Medals At Track Nats

Local riders performed well to take medals as part of the Tasman Centre cycling team at the RaboPlus Age Group Track Cycling Nationals at Invercargill last week.
Masters One rider Conway Taylor confirmed his recent good form to collect the Silver medal in the 3000m Individual Pursuit (3m 36.24s) and was also a close 4th in the 8km scratch race event. Jamie Kidd (part of the NZ AWD squad) carried on his improvement in times to record top time in the C4 4000m Individual Pursuit (5m 18.31s) and second fastest in the Kilo time trial at 1m 17.24s.
Certainly the youngsters were the stars of the Tasman team with Junior under 15 riders Cameron Ford (Nelson) and Quinn Karwowski (Blenheim) to the fore.
Ford took Silver in the 500m time trial, Bronze in the 200m Derby and 2000m scratch event, and 4th in the 8km Points race. Karwowski took a Bronze in the 500m time trial and two fourths and a fifth in the other events respectively. Nelson’s Kristoff Ford was also successful in the Junior under 17 grade taking the Silver in the 515m scratch event and 4th in the 500m time trial. Other members of the team also performed creditably including local Callum Saunders, with valuable experience gained for next year.  

Karwowski Back

Junior World champion Cameron Karwowski cleaned up on his return to Athletic Park at Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s track meeting last week.
Karwowski just cruised through the night with wins in the 1000m scratch, points race, 8000m scratch, and third in the 500m handicap event. Leading all the way in the 1000m scratch event he just cruised to clock a very fast time of 1m 09s. Other performers on the night were Jono Lee with 3 second places and Gerard van Antwerpen with 2 third places. Callum Saunders was the dominant junior under 17 rider with wins in the 1000m scratch race and points race. Quinn Karwowski and Nick Blakiston performed well with good placings.

Lee Keeps Dominating

Track racing at Athletic Park again saw Jono Lee as the dominant figure in the Open grade with wins in the 1000m scratch, miss and out, 8000m scratch and a second place in the 500m handicap event. Jamie Kidd showed good form to win the 500m handicap plus took 2 third placings and Wayne Smith also took two third placings.

Lee Dominates Track

Jono Lee carried on his dominance in the open grade track riding at Athletic Park last Monday evening with first placings in the ‘miss and out’, 1000m scratch, and 8000 scratch events. Warren Hall won the 500m handicap event. Other prominent riders on the night were Kevin Bishell with a second and 2 third placings and Graham Henderson with a second and a third placing. The junior under 17 grade events saw Saunders score wins in the 500m time trial and 1000m scratch whilst Quinn Karwowski won a good ‘miss and out’ event. Will Hart and Nick Blakiston took a second and a third placing each.

Close Racing On Track

Good numbers provided some close results in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s track racing at Athletic Park on Monday evening.
The open grade saw Jono Lee dominant with wins in the 500m time trial and the Points Race. Gerard van Antwerpen won the 1000m scratch and was second in the points race whilst Craig Murphy scored second placings in the 500m time trial and 1000m scratch. It was also good to see Andrew Curnow and Warren Hall back on the track with athird placing each.
The junior under 17 grade saw Callum Saunders take wins in the 500m time trial and 1000m scratch whilst placings were shared around between Will Hart, Nick Blakiston and Quinn Karwowski.

Good Start To Track Season

Gerard van Antwerpen and Callum Saunders were both in good early season form to take three wins each in Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s first evening of track racing at Athletic Park on Monday. In the open grade events van Antwerpen won the 1000m scratch, keirin and 8000m scratch. Jono Lee took the 500m handicap and was second in the 1000m and 8000m scratch events. Other prominent riders on the night were Craig Murphy and Graham Henderson who both recorded a second and third placing. The junior under 17 grade saw Saunders take all 3 events plus a third in the open 8000m scratch. Quinn Karwowski had a good night with two seconds and a third placing with Will Hart taking a second and two third placings.
