Winter Racing Gets Underway At Renwick.

Cuddon Cycling Marlborough start
their winter racing programme from Forrest Estate Winery at Renwick tomorrow
afternoon.
The open grade 32km handicap event
for the Vincent Shield is raced over 4 laps of a circuit covering Condors Bend,
Bedford Road, State Highway 63, Anglesea Street, Boyce Street, State Highway 6.
The fast circuit always provides close racing amongst the handicap bunches on
opening day. Fastest time honours is likely to be fought out between scratch
markers Ray Dunstan, Andrew Jamieson, Jeremy McKenzie, Josh Scott and Conway
Taylor.
The junior under 17 grade will
compete in a 16km handicap event over two laps of the course for the Opening Day
Cup. Callum Saunders and Quinn Karwowski will battle for time honours with their
main competition coming from Nick Blakiston and Will Hart. Provision will also
be made for any new riders wanting to ride the shorter distance.
All riders are to assemble at Forrest
Estate Winery at 1pm for a 1.30pm start. 

Last Event Of Season

A good field is expected when Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s riders compete in their final event of the road season at Renwick tomorrow afternoon.
The open grade and junior under 17 grade will combine for a 50km handicap event starting at Forrest Estate Winery. The event will cover an out and return course on the Northbank Road. Time honours are expected to be fought out between the scratch markers Gerard van Antwerpen, Josh Scott, Jeremy McKenzie, Ray Dunstan, Tony Catterick and Brodie Catterick, however a strong break group including youngsters Callum Saunders and Quinn Karwowski, along with Marty Bruce, Lee Griggs, Craig Anderson and Brent Ackroyd should keep them honest.
All riders are to meet at Forrest Estate Winery at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.

Waihopai Road Races

Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s riders will compete in handicap events on the Waihopai Valley Road course tomorrow afternoon.
The open grade 40km event will start opposite the Grove Mill Winery and follow a course out to just beyond Craiglochart and return. With a few of the top riders away at the National Club Road Championships in Wanganui, time honours are expected to go to Gerard van Antwerpen with his main opposition being Andrew Jamieson, Jeremy Mckenzie and Josh Scott.
The junior under 17 grade will compete in a 25km handicap event on the same course. Callum Saunders and Quinn Karwowski are expected to battle for time honours.
All riders are to assemble opposite the Grove Mill Winery in Waihopai Road at 1pm for a 1.30pm start. 

Handicap Events At Fairhall

Cuddon cycling Marlborough’s riders will compete in handicap events at Fairhall tomorrow afternoon.
The open grade 43km event will cover two laps of a Benmorven circuit to Godfreys Road course taking in the Ridge resort climb each lap. Fastest time is likely to be fought out between scratch markers Gerard van Antwerpen, Josh Scott, Jeremy McKenzie, Andrew Jamieson and Mark Grammer.
The junior under 17 grade will compete in a 22km handicap event over one lap of the open course. Callum Saunders and Quinn Karwowski will fight it out for time honours.
All riders are to assemble at the Fairhall hall at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.

Cuddon Marlborough 80km Open Championship

Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s riders will compete in the Cuddon Cycling Marlborough 80km Open Championship at Fairhall tomorrow afternoon.
The open grade handicap event will cover four laps of a slightly changed course, covering the Benmorven circuit, the Ridge Resort climb and turning at Fromm Winery in Godfreys Road. Masters rider Gerard van Antwerpen will be after a repeat of last year when he made a clean sweep to take first place and fastest time. Van Antwerpen’s competition for fastest time will come from scratch co-markers Andrew Jamieson, Conway Taylor, Josh Scott and Jeremy McKenzie. Trophies at stake will be the Ray Gibson Challenge Cup (fastest time), C Gibson Challenge Cup (first place), and Savoy Trophy (first Marlborough rider home). Titles for Senior men, Women, Masters Men, and Junior Under 19 Men will be competed for.
The Junior under 17 grade will compete in a 25km Championship event over one lap of the open course. Callum Saunders and Quinn Karwowski will have a good battle for fastest time with Nick Blakiston at their heels.
All riders are requested to assemble at Fairhall Hall at 1pm for a 1.30pm start. Usual front markers are likely to start early at 1.15pm.  

Strong Scratch Group For Pelorus Cup

Cuddon Cycling Marlborough are expecting good fields to compete in the Pelorus Cup events from Renwick tomorrow afternoon.
The open grade 60km handicap event will start at Forrest Estate Winery and cover an undulating course out to Havelock, into the Queen Charlotte Drive to the top of the Mahakipawa hill and return. Close competition for fastest time honours will be fought out between the strong scratch bunch of Gerard van Antwerpen, Josh Scott, Jeremy McKenzie, Tony Catterick, Conway Taylor, Ray Dunstan, Andrew Jamieson and Brodie Catterick.
The junior under 17 grade will compete in a 24km handicap event covering 3 laps of the Renwick/ Vintage lane circuit. Callum Saunders, Nick Blakiston and Quinn Karwowski should battle for time honours from the scratch mark.
All riders are to assemble at Forrest Estate Winery at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.

Lower Wairau Time Trial

Final Stages Of Curtis Piper Memorial Event

Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s riders will compete in the final two stages of the Curtis Piper Memorial 4 stage event from Renwick tomorrow afternoon.
Stage three of the event is a tough 5km hill time trial into the Delta Lake off SH63. Times will be crucial in this stage with only 24 seconds separating the top 10 riders on overall classification. The final 50km massed start stage follows SH63 up to Wairau Valley township and returns to finish in Condors Bend Road. Three sprints in the final stage allows riders to pick up time bonuses which could easily affect final placings. The handicap section of the event has Craig Anderson as current leader on 12pt from Ben Verhoef (8pt) and Glen Bateman (7pt). The junior under 17 grade riders will have a 25km final stage.
All riders are to assemble at Forrest Estate Winery at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.

Curtis Piper Memorial First Stages

Tomorrow afternoon the open grade riders will compete in the first two stages of the Curtis Piper Memorial 4 stage event at Renwick. The first stage is a 4km time trial on the Condors Bend/Bedford Road course. Stage two will see the riders compete over 63km from the Grove Mill Winery to the Waihopai Dam and return. A sealed handicap is run on each stage. The junior under 17 grade riders will compete in Stage One and then Stage Two over 27km. All riders are to assemble at Forrest Estate Winery, Renwick at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.

Anderson Rosebowl At Stake

A large field is expected for Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s prestigious Anderson Rosebowl event from Okaramio to Havelock and return tomorrow afternoon.
The 35km open grade handicap event over the windy and undulating course was first ridden for in 1953. Past winners competing tomorrow include Gill Painter (1965, 1969), Graham Henderson (1972), Todd Neal (1999, 2009), Warren Hall (2003) and Stuart Curnow (2010). Scratch marker Conway Taylor will be out to repeat his fastest time honours against co-markers Gerard van Antwerpen, Tony Catterick and Andrew Jamieson.
The junior under 17 grade will compete over 18km in a handicap event on the Northbank Road for the Keighley Cup. Nick Blakiston will be after a repeat performance of last years win with his main competition coming from Callum saunders, Quinn Karwowski and Will Hart.
All riders are to assemble at their venue (Open grade- Okaramio Tavern. Junior under 17 grade- 1km up Northbank Road) at 1pm for a 1.30pm start.
