Close Racing Expected On Lower Wairau Course

Fast racing and close competition is expected when Cuddon Cycling Marlborough’s open grade riders compete for the Van Antwerpen trophies from Grovetown tomorrow afternoon.
The open grade 44km handicap event starts and finishes in Vickerman Street, Grovetown and covers 3 laps of the Lower Wairau circuit, taking in Jones Road, Morgans Road, Swamp Road, Dillons Point Road and Rowberrys Road. The flat and fast circuit has provided some big bunch finishes over the last few years and competition will be keen throughout the handicap marks to keep the scratch markers at bay. Scratch rider Gerard van Antwerpen will be favoured for fastest time honours with his main rivals being co-markers Tony Catterick, Jeremy Mckenzie, Callum Saunders, Dylan Vile and Luc Cowley.
The junior under 17 grade will compete in a 24km handicap event for the Amtman and Sincock trophies. Thomas Westend will be favorite for time honours with his closest competition coming from Callum Caughey and Christopher Grammer.
All riders are to assemble at 137 Vickerman Street at 1pm for a 1.30pm
start.
